Dear Oakley Parents and Guardians

With just two weeks left of this half term it is time to update you on the many successes and activities that our girls have been a part of this past fortnight. House Song has dominated the past week, with the competition in the last week of term. Monitors have chosen a popular song – Black Magic by Little Mix and I hope you tune in on Tuesday 14th October to see the end result!

In June, current 5th Form pupils completed the British Biology Challenge, along with over 42,000 students in UK schools and British International Schools. In Routh Assembly, a Gold certificate, meaning they gained more than 90% of marks and were in the top 5% of all students, was awarded to Belle Wong and Zoe Zhu.

In June L6th Biology students completed the British Biology Intermediate Olympiad, along with 17,000 students in UK schools and British International Schools. Well done to Nikki Liu and Kalash Rai who also received a Gold certificate in Routh, placing them them in the top 5% of all students for this very challenging competition.

Congratulations to Winnie Zhuang who was highly commended at the national Shine awards for her artwork published in the school magazine.

Ibby Okeowo gained a Distinction in her Grade 8 LAMDA Solo Acting Examination.

Congratulations to Nandy Panwar who has been selected and secured a place within the Worcestershire County Cricket Club U14 girls programme. I understand that the standard at the trials was very high and squad sizes this year are smaller than previous years, so it is a real achievement to be selected. I look forward to watching her development as a young cricketer.

Junior House Drama took place this week; it was the culmination of many hours of rehearsal for the students. Led by Director Petya Lazarova and supported by Esinam Adom, the Fourth Form girls presented “Dead Air” by Jared Groudsmith. This was definitely a crowd pleaser as Lacey Sutton’s Host bridged the gap between TV and reality with powerful drive. This modern whodunnit was the stage debut for Heily Boginosoko, Anoushka Gurung and Siyon Rai who managed to keep us guessing, using the stage well to keep the audience on its toes. Finally, Giselle’s feisty performance as Brooke broke the fourth wall with a piercing scream that echoed through the auditorium. This was a real learning experience for all involved and I would like to thank them for representing Oakley with such energy and enthusiasm.

Thank you to our swimmers who placed a respectable 3rd place out of all the girls’ houses in the Junior House Swimming Competition last week. They were justly rewarded with a special breakfast in House the next day:

The L4 enjoyed a day away from School on Wednesday and completed a walk on the beautiful Malvern Hills. Tired legs and feet when they returned but they did really well.

Every year the Monitors from each House choose a charity to support. This year, Oakley Monitors have chosen a small charity called Wonder Foundation which supports the education of women and children across the world. More specifically the Monitors wanted to raise funds for their projects in Ukraine and Congo. Christina Ha led the girls in making an informative display to raise awareness for the charity:

I look forward to updating you on our Charity run next weekend and thank you to all who have supported us with sponsorship so far.

And I will leave you with the results of our Teams competition. Every girl is part of a Team led by Monitors. As a Team they perform House duties on a rota basis and we set them various challenges and tasks throughout the year. Their first challenge was to create a group photo to show off personalities and the Oakley spirit. Here were some of the results:

However, it was Kalash and Sai-Nam’s photo that was voted top and the prize was a McDonalds lunch! Congratulations to Team A who took over the School gym:

Best wishes
